What’s New: Download Archived Files On Demand
This release introduces a new Archive Restore feature that allows you to retrieve for download files that have been archived due to storage policies—without needing admin intervention.
What this means for you
You can access and download archived files anytime
You’ll see clear download progress updates during the restore process
You’ll receive notifications when files are ready to download
The experience is fully integrated into the existing download workflow
How to Restore an Archived File
Step 1: Find your file
Navigate to your package, project, or asset as usual.
Step 2: Initiate a download
Select individual assets or a cross selection. For all assets in a package or group, skip this step.
Open the download panel by selecting the download icon.
Choose to download to a drive or to Box.
Step 3: Messaging confirmation
When assets have been archived, you’ll see a message indicating that the asset(s) need to be retrieved and are not immediately available.
For a mixed download where assets are both archived and active, messaging will apply to the archived assets only.
Active assets will download immediately.
In app messaging will alert the user that assets are being pulled from the archive
Step 4: Wait for retrieval
The system begins restoring the file from archive storage
You’ll see progress/status updates in the UI
You’ll also receive an email notification indicating that your download has initiated and that you'll be notified when the assets are retrieved and ready for download

Step 5: Download your file
If you're not actively in the Core app:
Once ready, you’ll receive a “Download Ready” notification
Return to the download page or follow the link provided
Download as normal
If you're in the Core app when the Download is ready, the app will immediately start downloading the restored archival files
Important Notes
Restore times may vary depending on file size and archive tier
Some files may not be eligible for archival if actively in use
You’ll receive clear messaging if a file cannot be restored
