How to install, uninstall, and troubleshoot Aspera Connect for CORE

When you first login to CORE, you'll be prompted to install Aspera Connect. CORE uses Aspera to facilitate faster uploads and downloads, as well as enables you to direct your downloads to a selected folder.

Aspera Connect Installation

Mac Install

  1. Log on to Core, if you already have Aspera installed you’ll get a prompt to upgrade following the window below:

  2. Click on Install Extension and then Add to Chrome (or Safari) depending which browser you choose.

  3. Next, you will see this prompt: Click OK

  4. Next follow Step 2 in the Install Window: Download the App & Install Connect:

  5. Click on the Installer to start the new app Installation to your computer:

  6. Click Open to Continue the Installation

  7. Click Start:

  8. When Complete, Click Close:


PC Install

Browser Extension Installation

  1. Log on to Core, if you already have Aspera installed you’ll get a prompt to upgrade following the window below. Click on Install Extension

  2. Click Add to Chrome (or Safari) depending which browser you choose.

  3. Click Add extension

  4. You will receive the following window

5. Next follow Step 2 in the Install Window: Download the App & Install Connect. Click Install Connect

6. Check if your download bar shows the file downloaded. The download location on a PC is usually the Download folder. Note- you may have a different download location designated as your location. If you do not know the location search on your PC for the file name- IBMAsperaConnectSetup-ML. Double click on the downloaded file to launch the install.

7. Click Start

Aspera install is complete.


Troubleshooting

Use Case 1: Aspera Already Installed, Doesn't Upgrade with Setup, and Isn't Recognized by CORE

Some users may need to Uninstall the current Aspera Connect application if you already have it installed. (not all users have had to uninstall before upgrading but if the upgrade doesn’t resolve the issue for you, please try uninstalling the app before upgrading.)

Use Case 2: Aspera Not Recognized After Setup

  1. Refresh your browser.

  2. If that doesn't work, clear your cache, refresh your browser and log back into CORE.

  3. Still no? Try uninstalling and reinstalling Aspera.

Use Case 3: Aspera Was Blocked From Downloading And Now Won't Download

  1. Go to IBM-Aspera and select your computer type.

  2. It will automatically download to your Downloads folder.

  3. Follow the respective installation instructions above for your computer type.

Uninstall Procedure

Prerequisites

  • Quit Connect before uninstalling it.

Uninstall

Mac App Uninstall

  1. Go to Finder window

  2. Select Applications folder

  3. Control-Click on Aspera Connect icon

  4. Select Move to Trash

  5. Click on Finder again

  6. Empty Trash


PC App Uninstall

  1. Click on your Desktop

  2. Hold down the Windows key

  3. Hit the letter E - This opens File Explorer

  4. Search Aspera Connect

  5. Right-click on Aspera Connect folder

  6. Uninstall

PC NOTE: There are several versions of Windows you can see other ways to uninstall programs for different versions here:


Browser Extension Uninstall

If you have the Connect Browser Extension for Firefox or Chrome remove those as well. However, for Safari, the extension is removed when you uninstall Connect.

Chrome Extension Removal

  1. Click the three-dot icon in the upper right corner of the Chrome browser window.

  2. In the drop-down menu that opens, choose More Tools > Extensions

  3. The extension tab opens, look for the panel with the Connect extension and click Remove


Firefox Extension Uninstall

  1. Open the three-bar icon in the upper right corner of the browser window and click Add-ons

  2. The Add-ons Manager tab opens. Look for the panel with the Connect extension and click Remove:
