How-to tutorial for watching screeners/dailies via PC/MAC through a HDMI TV Connection
Updated over a year ago

For screeners and dailies, many clients use our Apple TV app (CORE by 5th Kind) as the preferred method for easy playback.

However, clients may not have the equipment readily available to watch the video on the AppleTV. (Previously users were also able to use screen mirroring to view CORE on a TV, but recent DRM changes currently prevent that.)

Solution 1: Connect PC/Mac to TV with a HDMI cable

The most direct (and wired) solution is with an HDMI cable. Just make sure you're using an HDMI cable that's certified for the necessary bandwidth you need to display your desired resolution and refresh rate.

Depending on your computers ports you may need an adapter, like in the example below.

Depending on how you want to use the TV, you can either mirror the screen which will show exactly what's on your desktop, or you can add the TV as a second monitor, and then just drag the CORE web window to your second screen.

To set your preference:

  • On PC, right click you Desktop, then select Display Settings.

  • On Mac, go to System Preferences, then select Displays.

On your TV, select the correct Source.

You will now be able to watch screeners/dailies and other assets from CORE on your home or office TV!

Solution 2: AirPlay from Mac to a TV supporting Airplay

Many newer televisions have an Airplay menu option to connect a Mac to the TV. You can also Airplay from your computer to a connected Apple TV device.

  1. Turn on the TV or Apple TV device

  2. Go to your control center in the top bar of your computer

  3. Select Screen Mirroring

Solution 3: Use TV's built-in wireless connection

If a TV doesn't support Airplay, it may support a wireless connection typically for Windows PCs.

If your TV supports a wireless connection, turn on both devices and make sure they're on the same wifi network.

Depending on your Windows system, there are a couple different ways to connect to the TV.

On Windows 11:

  1. Go to the Action Center

  2. Select Project

  3. Select Connect to wireless display

On Windows 10:

  1. From desktop, right click on empty space

  2. Select Display Settings

  3. Select Connect to wireless display

Solution 4: Cast to a third-party device like ChromeCast or a Firestick.

On a Firestick:

  1. Make sure the TV and Firestick are on the same network as your computer.

  2. Use the Home button, holding it a couple seconds to bring up a menu

  3. Set the Firestick to mirroring

  4. You computer should be able to detect it as a display that it can mirror to

For Chromecast:

  1. Setup the Chromecast on your TV

  2. Both devices should be on and on the same network as your computer

  3. Go to your Chrome browser where you have CORE open

  4. Select the ︙menu

  5. Scroll down and select Cast

Whatever you're looking at on your browser should now appear on your TV screen.
