Core 7.2 Release Notes
Updated over 3 months ago

14 August 2024

The 7.2 release introduces three main updates: Core rebranding, login enhancements on Web and Apple TV, and end-to-end updates for managing users added to Core on a package share. For a shareable overview and linked instruction guides, see our Core 7.2 Release Guide.

Performance and Experience Improvements

Core Login Updates

Core’s front door has a new look with its dark themed redesign; however the login process is the same as it has always been with no change to the login flow.

Basic Login Page

Hybrid SSO Login Page

SSO Login Experience

No changes were made to this workflow. Whether a user activates their SSO account via the Core login page or from their Identity Provider (IDP) dashboard, the setup process is the same.

Core Account Setup Updates for New Users

The account setup process does have some minor changes. See below for specific differences.

Account Setup via Basic Login

Basic account setup has one change. Instead of accepting a License Agreement at the end of the setup process, users are now prompted to check a Terms & Conditions box when setting up their user account.

Account Setup with MFA

Once a user sets up their user account they are prompted to set up their MFA. Instead of an all-in-one page, our MFA setup process is now two clear steps:

Login + Email Verification

On client sites where email verification has been enabled, users are required to verify their account during setup.

If your account also requires MFA, you’ll be prompted to set up that portion of your login following email verification. See our Account Setup Guide to review.

Improved MFA Reset Request Process

The new MFA Reset Request workflow more clearly calls out to a user when MFA help is needed, and validates that they do want to request their MFA be reset on their account.

Additionally, when a MFA Reset Request is sent to their internal Core support team, they are now copied on the email to that team.

Core Rebranding Updates

5th Kind Core is now just Core. You’ll see the Core logo and branding throughout the site and your general Core experience, including:

  • The site browser tab

  • The account setup and login pages

  • The left navigation menu

  • The dashboard thumbnails where no project image has been applied

  • The direct download page for Download packages

  • The default sync session background

  • Site logout branding

You’ll also see branding changes in email notifications:

  • Email templates have been updated to a new design and format, like the example shown below.

Moreover, your MFA apps, like Google Authenticator, should now list your Core site as “site name - Core by Sohonet”.

These same branding updates also appear on the new Core Apple TV 7.0 app available in the iOS app store. See Core Apple TV 7.0 Release Notes or the Core Apple TV Guide for more info.

Note: The Core mobile app has not been updated and remains in the 5th Kind Core app store. A new Core alpha mobile app will be released later this year, which will contain all the login and branding updates along with other important improvements.

End-to-End Improvements for New Users Added via Package Shares

From the sender experience, to the user sign-in experience, to Admins managing the new users, improvements have been made across the board for users added via package shares.

Sharing Improvements for Creating New Core Users via a Package Share

Now, when adding users to Core on a package share, the Recipient’s field will more easily parse a new email address alongside multiple new users or existing user emails by:

  1. Entering users as you type will be more quickly detected as a new or existing user

  2. Separating multiple users by commas or with spaces

  3. Pasting a mixed group of users into the Recipients field

All of these will be accepted when the user hits Return or Enter.

For Recipients of a Core Package Invite

The email notification more clearly outlines who the package is from and what it’s about.

Added Via Email Role - User Management Enhancements for Admins

When users are added to Core via a package share, they default into the “Added Via Email” role and can be tracked in the Members tab.

  • Now users are defaulted to a Pending status with just their email listed until they accept their invitation.

  • Only Admins can see Pending users listed in the user role.

  • Users who accept their package invite become an Active user and are searchable within the user database, and viewable as Members of the role by standard users with permission to access that role.

  • Admins can also manage and move the Active users to other roles as desired.

Bug Fixes and Technical Updates

  • FIXED: Improved error messaging when a user – invited to Core via a package share – attempts to create a username that already exists in the system

  • FIXED: When sharing a package, in the Recipients field, searching for a user by username will now populate a searchable list of users.

  • UPDATE: Live Rooms has been removed from Core

  • UPDATE: Backend infrastructure created for updated Apple TV login flow. See Apple TV release notes, for user experience updates.

Found / Known Issues:

  • Zips older than 7 days, do not download on first try and the user receives an error. Zip will download on the second try. Fix currently in the development pipeline.
